Last week, at Hotelga, I had one of the most moving experiences I can remember. I met At the table, the first restaurant run by neurodivergent youth. What I saw there moved me deeply and made me reflect on something that transcends aesthetics or profitability: When design has a real purpose, it can change lives.
That space wasn't just a restaurant. It was a place where every decision had been thought out to empower those who lived there: a kitchen without stoves or knives for safety, a color system that guided each recipe, an atmosphere created so these young people could work with independence, self-esteem, and dignity. The result goes far beyond job inclusion: it's belonging, it's community, it's trust.
Big and small goals
Not every project has to transform the entire world to be meaningful. Sometimes, a purpose can be as simple as sharing what you love.
I remember the case of a client who wanted to open an empanada shop. Beyond the business, what she really wanted was to share her passion for a recipe she'd lovingly made all her life. That was her goal: share with others a little piece of their history and their table.
A restaurant can focus on inclusion, a café on being a refuge where you can disconnect from technology and reconnect with yourself, a hotel on transmitting the spirit of a local culture. And each of these goals, large or small, contributes a small part to the well-being that the community seeks and needs today.

How design empowers purpose
When a space has a clear purpose, the design cannot be solved with generic formulas. It needs to be unique, thought out in terms of Who is going to live there and what message do you want to convey? This is where neuroarchitecture reminds us that every spatial decision impacts the way we feel, move, and relate.
If the purpose is inclusion, the design can incorporate color coding, clear signage, and accessible routes that provide intuitive guidance. Contrasting materials, targeted lighting, and well-defined paths are not just technical resources: they are tools to ensure autonomy and dignity.
If the purpose is to transmit loveThe aromas, the warmth of the light, and the choice of materials evoke the kitchen in your mom's house: an intimate space that awakens memories and creates a sense of belonging.
If the purpose is to disconnect to reconnect, furniture can invite face-to-face conversation, without screens as the protagonist, or create private corners that invite you to read a book, meditate, or simply rest.
Each project requires unique decisions that translate purpose into sensations. Because conscious design doesn't just decorate: orchestrates stimuli that activate emotions and build experiences aligned with the essence of the brand and the needs of its community.
Beyond profitability
Profitability is essential in a business, and in strategic design, it's already a given. Operational efficiency, proper layout, durable materials... all of these are the minimum foundation of any well-thought-out project. But today we need to go further.
A space can't just be efficient or beautiful. Customers already expect that as standard. What really makes a difference is when a place conveys values, tells a story, and connects with people through a clear purpose.
Because a place that excites and inspires well-being not only attracts customers: it creates a community, builds loyalty, and remains in the memory. And that value—the feeling of being part of something bigger than a simple product or service—is what determines a brand's true success today.

Sustainability and inclusion shouldn't be an afterthought at the end of a project. They should be considered from the beginning, as an essential part of every design decision. However, reality shows that we're still far from that point. And that's why projects like At the table They surprise us: because they remind us of the true power of design when it is done with purpose.
At Interiores Maluk, we believe this should be the natural path for every space in the hospitality sector: places that inspire awareness, inspire people, and empower meaningful business.
🌿 At Interiores Maluk, we don't just design spaces. We design purposes that are lived, felt, and generate a positive impact.
